There are some options to the classic Inca Trail. Usually you will find a portion of the Inca Trail mixed with the Lares or Salkantay Trek.
Note: Some combo treks include all of the Classic Inca Trail trek plus another trek. Many of our combo treks include the 2 day or Short Inca Trail to arrive at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate.
Combined treks have gained popularity recently, despite the fact that only a few Inca Trail Operators are offering them to their clients. Combo treks have risen drastically in popularity because they allow travelers to arrive at Machu Picchu while walking in step with the Inca, but still experience some of the incredible things that other treks have to offer.
Combinations:
For example, the Lares Trek allows a respectful glimpse into rural Peruvian life alongside immense glaciers and beautiful glacial lakes, herds of llamas and alpacas, and beautiful mountain valleys.
The Salkantay Trek is often regarded as one of the most beautiful treks in Peru. It traverses high mountain passes and immense glacial lakes, down through thick jungle.
Both of these treks have incredible benefits to them- but neither of them enter Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate. This iconic entrance is exclusive for Inca Trail hikers, be it the 4 day route or the 2 day hike.
Then, for those looking for the ultimate experience: Choquequirao Trek to Machu Picchu. This is a 6 day adventure across deep canyons and over mountain passes. A trek for those who aren’t scared of physical challenges. You will visit the 2 major citadels hidden in the cloud forest, plus a number of smaller sites.
Some might say that for trekkers, trekking into Machu Picchu is the only way to really get there. If you believe that, check out the options we have listed below:
