1 Day Inca Trail VS 2 Days Inca to Machu Picchu

The 1 Day Inca Trail

On the 1 day Inca Trail you hike the exact same incredible Inca Trail as the 2 day short Inca Trail and you tour Machu Picchu Citadel in the afternoon with your guide all in 1 day.  It is a more concentrated hike and tour for those short on time or just wanting to do it all in 1 day. Trekkers still get the same stunning cultural show of Inca ruins, exotic side by side mountains, and the beauty of the primitive lush vegetation. The ancient Inca road goes through the Peruvian National Reserve with cloud pitted forests, subtropical vegetation including several varieties of orchids.  The trail enters straight into Machu Picchu Citadel through the Sun Gate.  You get a private tour visiting all of the hidden corners of the Inca monument.  Passengers either take the train back that evening and some stay the night in Aguas Calientes the city at the base of Machu Picchu Citadel.

It is important that potential trekkers understand that they need to be in moderate to excellent physical condition to be able to complete the trek and arrive at Machu Picchu in time to for their guided tour before the citadel closes.  If a hiker thinks the trek of 12KM or 8 miles might be too strenuous we suggest that they consider booking the 2 day short Inca Trail which provide the trekker more time to trek, visit sites, and hike at a slower pace enjoying the sites.

2 Day Short Inca Trail

The appeal of the Short Inca Trail 2 day trek is the stunning cultural show of Inca ruins, exotic side by side mountains, and the beauty of the primitive lush vegetation. The ancient Inca road goes through the Peruvian National Reserve with cloud pitted forests, subtropical vegetation including several varieties of orchids.  The trail enters straight into Machu Picchu Citadel through the Sun Gate.  Persons hiking the 2 day short Inca Trail have the opportunity to visit Machu Picchu Citadel at the end of their trek the 1st day and they return to Machu Picchu the following day for their 2.5 hour guided tour. They have the possibility of also climbing Huayna Picchu Mountain and Machu Picchu Mountain.
